Seems like the island caribbean wave is still booming. This past year there has been a lot of controversy about the americanization of Caribbean Reggae, Dancehall and Soca music. Yet, with all that controversy breed a new movement and wave in this music industry especially in Toronto. With songs like “One Dance”, “Work”, “Gwan Big Up Urself” and many more, island roots stretched into all of our playlists. The 6ix has so many artists especially producers experimenting with the tropical sounds and vibrations and created some beautiful work. Work that can be considered to be timeless which ultimately leads to our topic(al) song (pun intended).
DBLCRSS is a Canadian producer under Nü Faith Records. His recent song “Resist” features vocalists Leo and Chivas Kimber. Right off the bat we hear a very upbeat tropical loop with a catchy melody. Even though, we felt that the auto tune really took away from the feeling of the song, the instrumental really was the highlight of this particular song. Our favourite part was the hook where the bass dropped and the vocals came to together and made a beautiful melodic chorus. It was truly reminiscent of Caribana in Toronto. DBLCRSS really showed his versatility and unique skills on this track. His engineering skills also came to play by mixing the song to perfect. It was extremely clean and level. Overall, this song is strong and deserves credit and hype. DBLCRSS is definitely something special. Great work.
